Trauma-focused, relationship-led therapy and psychology

In Bolton, Greater Manchester, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax and Yorkshire

Brighter Futures offers trauma-informed therapy for children, adopted and looked-after, families, and adults. We also work with schools and residential homes, bringing the same careful, relationship-led approach to every person we support.

We support you

We help people of all ages reduce the surprising and frightening range of symptoms caused by trauma. We support children who have experienced developmental and early life trauma, as well as their families and the organisations around them. We support adults who have grown up after childhood trauma, and those who have experienced intimate-partner or sexual violence.

Families & children, looked after and adopted

Brighter Futures specialises in supporting young people who do not live with their birth families and their new families. Our child therapists have personal experience caring for neurodivergent and looked after children; so we know how challenging it can be.

Children & Young People

Some young people are able to talk about their worries with a child therapist, others may respond better to a family-based therapy, while younger children might respond to Play Therapy. We will discuss this with them or their parents, depending on age, during the free consultation.

Adult survivors of trauma

Survivors of childhood trauma are often not ready for therapy until they reach adulthood; or perhaps or your traumatic events did not occur until adulthood. During the free initial consultation, we will decide together which kind of therapy would be most appropriate for you.

Adoption Agencies & Charities

Speak directly to our clinicians, who have personal experience of children looked after and neurodiversities. Attachment and developmental psychology underpin all our practice. We include an initial assessment and a post-intervention assessment as part of our package.

Schools & Residential Care Homes

Our experienced clinicians will deliver consultations and expert, trauma-informed training for your staff. Attachment and developmental psychology underpin all our practice. Regular reflective practice to maintain the highest of practice standards for your staff.

Integrative psychotherapy shaped around your needs

No single therapy can treat every individual or family in every situation. We offer psychotherapy tailored to individual needs and personal situations. We provide therapy which considers individual difficulties, goals, expectations and motivations. Integrative Psychotherapy represents more than a simple combination and equals more than the sum of its parts.

  • Raising adopted and fostered children, and children looked after under special guardianship orders can feel overwhelming. Children feel out of control, inferior, and full of self-hatred.

DDP helps carers to feel heard and validated, and helps develop attachment between adult and child. DDP helps carers help their children heal.

  • NVR reduces extreme behaviours, like self-harm, verbal and physical abuse.

It provides non-harmful, practical methods of working with children, which de-escalate situations in the moment.

NVR helps parents demonstrate their authority through calm, clear boundaries, as well as maintaining and repairing the carer-child relationship.

  • CBT is used for a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression and phobias.

It focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and aims to improve current difficulties by changing patterns of thinking and behaviour.

CBT is structured and practical, and often suits people who prefer an active, skills-based approach rather than exploring past causes.

  • Trauma causes symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts and memories.

Based on the premise that exposure to traumatic memories will reduce them, TF-CBT will help you become ready to face those memories through speech and written word.

TF-CBT will also help you develop coping strategies for daily difficulties.

  • Early life trauma can cause extreme and impulsive symptoms like unbearable emotions, dysfunctional relationships, and self-harm.

DBT provides practical strategies for getting on with other people; surviving crises without immediate recourse to dangerous, impulsive behaviours; and moderating our emotions.
